>what am I even looking at?

Cherry.txt is a culture blog written by me, Jaina. I review and report on media that I have opinions about – games, music, TV, movies. I'll also dip into other genres now and then, but culture criticism is the broad category that describes just about everything I write. My work has also been described as bitchy, obnoxious, and biased. On that last point, yes I am biased. Everyone has a bias, and when people pretend not to it really rubs me the wrong way. A perspective is by definition a bias, and if you don't have a perspective why am I reading you?

>who are you?

My name's Jaina Rodríguez-Grey, I'm a career tech and culture journalist with more years of experience than I know what to do with. Which is why this whole thing exists. You may have read my work at WIRED, Vice, The Guardian, Reuters, or Gamespot, or maybe you didn't, in which case here are a few pieces I've written.

Frequently Asked Questions

>what's with this whole retro thing? why's it look like this?

I've spent my whole career writing for publications with websites that are in black and white or shades of gray, and I'm so tired of it. I wanted to make something that felt weird, unique, a little retro, a little futuristic, without getting in the way of the reading experience. I wanted to pare everything down to basics and build a blog I'd want to write for. And yes, the era of garish, over the top graphics in the 2000s IRC piracy scene was a formative time for me, why do you ask?

But seriously, staring at black-and-white online publications for 20 years I've just been desperate for a little color. Maybe a lot of color.
